Surgical centers get access to fluid-repellant textiles

Custom Linen Solutions (CLS), an Orlando-based provider of textiles and uniforms to healthcare centers, announced that they have taken on a new product line to help their ambulatory surgical center (ASC) customers.

Adequate personal protection equipment (PPE) against infections has always been a high-priority in the medical field. CLS directly addressed their concerns by incorporating a new and innovative technology called Vestex, the latest in protective medical wear.

Vestex scrubs repel blood and bodily fluids while remaining breathable, and contain an anti-microbial to prevent fabric degradation from microorganisms.

“Studies indicate that healthcare workers want barrier protection as a first line of defense against the contaminants they face every day.” says Craig Mayo, president and CEO of CLS. “We are proud to help our customers address their employees’ number one concern so they can focus on what they do best – taking care of patients.”

“We applaud Custom Linen Solutions’ effort to equip their customers with tools for personal protection. In addition to the day-to-day PPE required in their line of work, Vestex will provide healthcare workers with additional protection against splatters from blood and bodily fluids without increasing compliance steps,” says Ben Favret, president and CEO of Vestagen.

Haiku releases three new eco-friendly mattresses

Haiku Designs, a leading online retailer of Asian furniture and platform beds, is pleased to announce the launch of their new and improved mattress line, featuring three new eco-friendly mattresses free from synthetic petrochemical based foams, metal coils, chemical linings, and blended synthetic additives.

Each mattress is constructed from all-natural materials such as latex foam, bamboo, organic wool and unbleached cotton (all renewable, sustainable resources) to create a comfortable, healthier choice for sleeping surfaces, and improved health and harmony in the bedroom.

The "Progressive Comfort System" used to create each mattress utilizes layers of natural latex foam that get progressively softer from the bottom of the mattress to the top, with the firm foundation layers providing superior support and the softer layers on top providing superior comfort.

"Despite the current popularity of synthetic foam and memory mattresses, we at Haiku Designs believe that sleeping on a mattress made of 100% petrochemicals combined with other toxic chemicals isn't such a good idea. If you are unsure how to pronounce the names of these chemicals, it's not good to have them next to your skin every night," said a representative from Haiku Designs.

The all-natural latex and eco-foam used in Haiku Designs' mattresses features an open-celled structure, which allows air to circulate freely throughout the mattress, thereby eliminating mold and potential allergens. In addition, all of their mattresses offer the benefit of a negative carbon footprint, meaning they take more carbon out of the atmosphere during their growth cycle than is released from their harvesting.

Advansa announces reduction in CO2 footprint in ECO2Technology

Advansa has made an announcement regarding the decline in the Carbon dioxide footprint in its ECO2Technology for ThermoCool fibres which was confirmed by a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). The analysis was conducted by TNO which is an independent organization for applied scientific research based in Netherlands.

As per Advansa, the Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) confirmed an average decline of 80 percent in the release of global warming gases as well as drop in the non-renewable energy used in the ECO2Technology that is being applied for its ThermoCool commodities.

The LCA is based on system expansion methodology and offers a consistent measurement of several criteria associated with the production of global warming gases as well as the use of non-renewable energy.

According to Advansa, the LCA also substantiates that the technology applied for producing ECO2 products indicates use of less Carbon dioxide footprint with exceptional moisture managing capacity and high comfort level.

The ThermoCool staple fibres are manufactured by applying modern recycling technology under which polymer from post consumer PET is changed by means of a high-tech production process into first-rate polyester fibre.

Body shaping stretch lace articles to be produced on JL 40/1 F

In the past, it seemed that the concepts of glamour and comfort were mutually exclusive when it came to briefs, tops and bras. Women felt that they had to hide their practical, comfortable ‘passion killers’, whilst their more seductive, glamorous lingerie was unfortunately only worn on special occasions.

As far as modern lingerie is concerned, the boundaries between the functional, usually sporty, everyday collections and the high-end, exquisite ranges are increasingly disappearing. Glamorous lingerie should be, in fact must be, practical and vice versa – and this trend is encouraging textile machinery producers in particular to develop new machines.

KARL MAYER is catering for the demand for lace fabrics with light control by developing the JL 40/1 F. This new Jacquardtronic Lace machine produces fabrics for the lingerie and clothing sectors which, as well as offering a wide range of different patterns, also provide controlled compression. These beautiful, comfortable, light-control garments shape the body gently. They also fit perfectly and enable the underwear to be harmonised with the outerwear, without showing any lines or slipping.

The well-thought-out configuration of the JL 40/1 F is designed to meet the demand for combining design with function.

The configuration of the JL 40/1 F

This innovative machine developed by KARL MAYER was designed to cater for the functional lingerie sector with all the characteristic lace elements.

The newly configured bar arrangement on the JL 40/1 F Jacquardtronic machine enables stitch-forming lappings to be worked using the existing jacquard bar. In combination with the split yarn threading-in arrangement, ground structures having functional characteristics can be produced. Conventional ground structures typical of the narrow fabrics used in lace lingerie, can also be produced. Fine lace fabrics with functional, light-control characteristics can be produced by using the possibility of combining the potential offered by stitch formation with the split threading-in arrangement of the jacquard bars. The fine machine gauge of 28 needles per inch gives both the functional products and the lace fabrics, an elegant, ethereal, transparent appearance.

Tight cotton supply/demand situation to continue in 2011

National Cotton Council economists say a tight overall cotton supply/demand situation coupled with continued pressure from competing crops for the coming year is consistent with cotton prices above historical norms.

“As 2011 begins, the global cotton market is experiencing unprecedented prices with the “A” Index at $2.00 and nearby futures trading in the $1.70’s,” Council economist, Dr. Gary Adams, said in his outlook for delegates at the NCC’s 73rd Annual Meeting. “Unlike the price spike of March 2008, the current price situation has support from the fundamentals.”

Adams, the NCC’s vice president, Economics and Policy Analysis, said a key issue to watch will be the ability to sustain cotton demand in the prevailing market conditions, particularly given the uncertain nature of the macroeconomic recovery. He said that consumers in developing markets such as China and India will increasingly become the drivers of global retail cotton demand.

“Growth in cotton demand bodes well for total cotton trade,” Adams said. “Increased mill use in China will require additional imports as available cotton stocks remain at low levels. In fact, for most countries, beginning stocks for the 2011 marketing year are at the lowest levels in recent years, and leave little room for further reductions during the upcoming marketing year.”

He said the increased import demand will create a positive environment for U.S. cotton exports, which are forecast at 15.6 million bales for the 2011 marketing year – the second highest level after the 2005 marketing year.

“U.S. stocks that began the marketing year under 3.0 million bales will fall to 2.3 million bales by July 31, 2011,” Adams said. “When compared to the past 50 years, ending stocks for the 2010 marketing year will represent a new low. The United States will be essentially sold out of cotton as any remaining stocks will be committed to a textile mill, either in the U.S. or abroad.”

3rd edition of PREMIÈRE BRASIL attracts record audience

“All fashion information is here”. With this sentence, the designer Mario Queiroz, from Rio de Janeiro, summed up the perceptions of each of the 4,815 visits of Première Brasil Spring/Summer 2012, 57% more compared to January 2010. Out of these, 5% are foreign visitors from countries like Argentina, Colombia and Peru. The event held on January 19 and 20 in São Paulo had 108 exhibitors divided into five universes: Denim & Sportswear, City & Glam, Yarns & Fibers, Design, and Accessories.

For the show manager Carolina Riente, Première Brasil once again brought together major representatives from the Brazilian and foreign textile markets. “We realized that the labels have achieved their major goal. In a single venue, they have unveiled their summer collections and welcomed a highly qualified audience, including fashion entrepreneurs and designers seeking materials for their upcoming collections,” adds Mrs. Riente, from Fagga Eventos.

Participating for the second time in the event, São Joanense, based in São Joao Del Rey, Minas Gerais, confirms the comments from the organizers. According to Director Sergio Etz, right on the first day of the event they had 50% more visitors, compared to the first day in January last year. Investing in a casual-style denim collection with a different structure both for plain and for printed fabrics, São Joanense unveiled its main items for the Spring/Summer 2012 season. “We had visits of businesspersons from all over Brazil, and representatives from Argentina and Colombia. We have participated in other textile trade shows, but today we are only exhibiting at Première Brasil,” Mr. Etz said.

Given the growth of the entire domestic textile industry, which each year exceeds expectations, it is climbing to a new level and establishing itself on the international scene. Jacques Brunel, Managing Director of Première Vision, stated that “the Brazilian fashion industry has all the tools to become a major world power.” For Mr. Brunel, the third edition of Première Brasil exceeded all expectations, showing the strength of the country.

CASHMERE WORLD 2011 will move to 24-26 October, 2011. This allows exhibitors and visitors to combine their sales and buying trips in one month. The fair will take place in the same venue, the Chinese National Convention Center, in Beijing.

Mr. Tian Hong, Director of The China Chamber of Commerce of the Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce & Animal By-Products (CFNA) and co-organiser of CASHMERE WORLD explained, “The new dates, which are one month earlier, give buyers more opportunities to gather information, look for new suppliers and compare prices before placing orders.”

CASHMERE WORLD is the only trade show dedicated exclusively to the whole supply chain of the international cashmere industry. It is designed to help the global cashmere industry grow sustainably. Displayed products cover every stage, from raw materials, through manufacturing technology, testing and grading standards methods, to finished fashion products.

As a small, but prestigious part of the overall global apparel industry, the demand for cashmere is driven by fashion. For example: determining fashion colours for the up-coming season has led to the first Cashmere World Colours - now a regular feature of the fair, where visitors can view the upcoming colours, materials and styles.
