The Syrian cabinet has approved a proposal to revive and improve the working of the Syrian textile and garment industry.It has accepted the vision document prepared by the Ministry of Industry and asked the Ministry to prepare a plan to improve the competitiveness of the textile and apparel sector.
Speaking to reporters, the Minister of Industry said that by implementing the vision document, 609,000 new job opportunities would be created in the textile industry.
The paper envisages development of the Syrian cotton textile industry in order to avoid exports of raw cotton and also meet the needs of the domestic markets.

Cotton is a renewable natural fiber, so it has more environmental and sustainability advantages over petroleum based synthetic fibers.
