Formal export of Chyangra pashmina begins

After the distribution of the collective trademark labels to the pashmina exporters, the pashmina entrepreneurs have now officially started exporting ´Chyangra Pashmina´.

Nepal Government gave a nod to bestow the Nepali Chayngra Pashmina with a trademark in October last year and thus made a way for extensive promotion of the country’s third most exportable handicraft product.

In the first stage, around 600 labels were distributed among five pashmina exporting firms including Everest Pashmina Knitting and Webbing Industry, Indecom Soie Pvt Ltd, Nepal Pashmina Udhyog, Everest Cashmere Industry and Sagarmatha Silk Industry.

Exporters may obtain those trademark labels if their products comply with the quality norms for exportable products.

Granting of this trade mark is looked upon to take the Nepali Chyangra to new heights of success. The initial five months of the current financial year 2010-11 saw the country’s pashmina exports falling by 8.3 percent to Rs 600 million.

The trademark has been registered in 38 countries and efforts are still going on to get it registered in eight more countries.
